Firstly and most importantly: our breath keeps us alive. Breathwork, in general, is a safe modality for all of us.

Today, Breathwork is used in schools and hospitals, backed by science for its benefit. Youngsters, middle-aged, and elderly.

However, although everyone breathes, different ways of exploring breathwork might not suit everyone.

Relaxing and downregulating breathing exercises are generally safe. They are typically done through the nose and with gentle, slow breathing techniques.

However, intense breathwork exercises might not be for everyone. They typically involve more intense breathing techniques, often a mix of mouth and nose breathing. 

Depending on whether you do your breathwork online or live, your preparations might differ a bit.

In general, these are great preparations to recommend: 

  • If online, ensure you have a quiet room, ideally free from any distractions that could pull your attention from the session, such as kids, dogs, family, etc. 
  • You will need a comfortable place to lie down, such as a bed, yoga mat, sofa, or soft surface. Comfortability is key. Please prepare a space where you can comfortably lie down while continuing to show your entire body on the video call. Make sure you´ve visited the toilet beforehand. 
  • Avoid eating heavy meals a minimum of approx. 2,5 hours before the session, but don´t come too hungry as your body will need the energy for the breathwork as well. You'll go deeper into the session if your body does not use valuable energy to process foods.
  • If you do it online, headphones will provide the best sound experience. 
  • An eye mask or a small towel over the eyes is a great addition (if you have one). 
  • A lip balm and a bottle of water could help with dry lips. 
  • Do not jump into major tasks, responsibilities, or meetings for at least one hour after completing the journey. Please do not drive within 30 minutes of finishing your breathwork. You'll need a bit of time to integrate.

If you come live, please bring a yoga mat, a small blanket, and a pillow for your space of Breathwork. 

If you feel uncertain or have a history of a condition, please consult your medical healthcare provider before beginning intense breathwork.

Breathwork is beneficial and recommended for various cardiovascular problems, but always consult your cardiologist before deciding which breathwork is safe for you to perform at any given time.

Breathwork may not be for you if you have the following conditions; please consult your doctor to check:

* Cardiovascular problems - High or abnormal blood pressure, History of aneurysms or Stroke

* Epilepsy or history of seizures

* Heavy medication

* Severe psychiatric symptoms, particularly psychosis, paranoia or Bipolar depression.

* Osteoporosis

* Recent surgery

* Glaucoma

* Pregnancy

* Any person with mental illness who isn’t in treatment or lacks adequate support.

* Anyone experiencing an emotional or spiritual crisis.
